Cornelius Vermuyden celebrates strongest GCSE results for many years
Cornelius Vermuyden School is celebrating its strongest set of GCSE result for many years, confirming the remarkable transformation achieved across the school.
These outcomes follow a relentless focus on high expectations, strong teaching and targeted support. The impact can be seen across English, maths and the wider curriculum, as well as in the individual achievements of Year 11 pupils.
Notable successes this year include:
Hollie May worked incredibly hard throughout Year 11 while also making an important contribution to the wider school as leader of the School Council. That same commitment was reflected in her results. Hollie achieved grades 5 to 8 in every subject, including grade 8 in English Literature and French, and grade 7 in English Language and maths.
Hollie said: “It was challenging, but seeing my results made it all worthwhile. My advice to next year’s Year 11 pupils is to work hard and never doubt what you can achieve when you put your mind to it.”
Emerson Cook showed tremendous dedication to her studies, improving significantly from one set of mock examinations to the next. Her results are a true reflection of what determination and hard work can achieve. Emerson leaves Cornelius with grades 5 and 6 in all her subjects. She will now attend King John Sixth Form to study A Levels.
Max Banthorpe approached every challenge with determination and never gave up, even when things were difficult. His teachers describe him as a pleasure to teach and are delighted to see his determination rewarded. Max made exceptional progress from the beginning of Year 11 and leaves Cornelius with a suite of standard passes, including English Language, English Literature and maths. Max will now attend USP College to study Gaming.
Tommy Brown’s effort and determination were rewarded with grade 7 in history and grade 6 in computer science, maths and combined science, alongside a strong pass in English Language. Tommy will now attend South East Essex College to study Music Performance.
Megan Parks balanced her responsibilities as Deputy Head Pupil with a serious commitment to her studies. She attended every additional revision and examination preparation session and her dedication paid off. Megan achieved grades 6 to 8 across all her subjects, including grade 8 in PE and grade 7 in English Literature, history and drama. She will now attend South East Essex College to study Dance.
These individual achievements are part of a wider culture of high expectations and success across Cornelius Vermuyden School, strengthened through joining South East Essex Academy Trust (SEEAT), which has supported the school since 2024.
Reflecting on the results, Headteacher Dee Conlon said:
“I am incredibly proud of our pupils. These results are testament to the determination of our young people, the relentless commitment of our staff, the support of our families.
“We want every child to leave Cornelius proud of who they are, proud of what they have achieved and ready for whatever comes next. Today, our Year 11 pupils are doing exactly that.”
